Matt Whittaker confirms Porsche entry into the Rodin Cars Super GT Series

Second generation Porsche racing driver Matt Whittaker will contest a Porsche 991 Gen 2 in the Rodin Cars Super GT Series, which starts in January at the Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.

A regular participant in the endurance and Porsche series competition,
Whittaker has two national Porsche championships as well as some North Island Endurance Series championships and hopes to be near the front of the field when the first race of the Rodin Super GT Series kicks off in January.

The Wellington-based driver says he looks forward to joining the field in one of the most competitive Porsche and GT fields in several years.

“I think the series looks really fantastic. It will be good to get all of those 991s and 997s together on the track, ”says Whittaker.

“In addition, there are all these GT4 cars.”

“The series is going to be very competitive and I think this will really improve on some of the other series I’ve been on recently. The Porsche Cup cars are all very close to each other and the caliber of the other drivers is quite high. “

Two 30-minute races and one 60-minute race with a mandatory pit stop are held on each lap. There is a choice of one or two drivers per car.

“I like the format of the race, there is a lot of track time. It’s much better than a handful of 6-8 short rounds. With these formats, I think it will be a busy weekend. “

“I’m not sure yet, but I could even get a second driver to work with me in the one-hour race.”

The Rodin Cars Super GT Series will consist of four races over three months from January 15, 2022 in the Highlands in Cromwell.

This is followed by round two at Mike Pero Motorsport Park, Rupauna in Christchurch from January 22nd to 23rd, before going to Hampton Downs from February 12th to 13th. The final round will take place in Taupo from March 26th to 27th, 2022.
