Suppliers must indicate their prices with a standardized pence-per-kilowatt-hour (kWh).

You also need to make this information available to price comparison websites and apps so drivers can find out where they can top up for cheaper nearby.

Ministers will require price transparency through legislation and make charging point data publicly available.

About a third of households don’t have access to off-street parking, but charging an electric car at home is much cheaper than using one of the 25,000 public charging points across the country.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said it anticipates electric vehicles will account for more than one in six new vehicles purchased this year.
