Mustang Gen3 Supercars Chassis Revealed

The frame was designed and built by renowned chassis specialist Pace Innovations, who was effectively the chassis supplier throughout the era of the car of the future.

This special chassis will now be handed over to the Ford homologation team Dick Johnson Racing, where it will be converted into the prototype of the Gen3 Ford Mustang.

After the unveiling of the Triple Eight chassis that will underpin the Chevrolet Camaro prototype, it’s the second set of bar work to break cover.

Both Gen3 chassis are lower to better match the two-door body shapes and feature removable front and rear panels for faster repair, a more central driving position, and a roof hatch for better access to medical crews.

The Gen3 project has been the subject of controversy over the past few weeks as the teams’ turmoil over the timelines for a launch in 2022 peaked in the final round at The Bend.

This led to a crisis meeting last Tuesday at which it was agreed to push for the rules to be introduced in 2022, but subject to “regular reviews” of the schedule.

As announced by Motorsport.com for the first time, a sensational introduction of the new regulations in the middle of the year is one of the options.

Should the new rules roll out as planned in 2022, this chassis will support the first of two new Mustangs in as many years.

The latest version of Ford’s famous muscle car, the S650, is slated for release next year and is expected to be added to the Supercars grid in 2023.
