Name midwife Lucille star Leonie Elliot details ‘difficult’ wedding scene | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Call the Midwife fans will be happy to hear that a festive special of the hit BBC One drama will air on Christmas Day. The feature-length special focuses on the winter wedding of Lucille Anderson (played by Leonie Elliot) and Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) in Poplar. The countdown to the big day doesn’t go smoothly, however, as a multitude of mishaps happen along the way. Ahead of the Christmas episode’s airing, Lucille actress Leonie revealed why filming the highly-anticipated wedding scene was so difficult.

Leonie spoke about filming her Christmas wedding ‘Call the Midwife’ ahead of the festive special broadcast on BBC One.

The 33-year-old star told Express.co.uk that she felt “really elegant” wearing the wedding dress for the drama, but admitted it wasn’t without problems.

She explained: “I was in a really tight corset and I remember being very erect all day and having our costume lady always behind me.

“It made me feel very elegant, but I was always very distant from everyone — it was a tough day being elegant.”

The actress described a major issue with the custom-made white wedding dress she experienced during filming.

“It took about 20 minutes to get into the dress and everything, so it was very difficult and difficult to get out of,” she revealed.

“And when I came out, it wasn’t tea or coffee, just water.”

Leonie was not allowed to touch tea, coffee or colored drinks in case she spilled them on the wedding dress and stain it.

The Christmas special “Call the midwife” is always one of the highlights of the TV program on Christmas Day.

Last year, five million viewers tuned in to the celebratory special, and this year seems to be just as popular.

As caring midwife Lucille prepares for her Boxing Day wedding with her mechanic fiancé, the Nonnatus team faces their busiest Christmas Day ever as the maternity hospital fills with expectant mothers.

Luckily, mom Mildred (Miriam Margolyes) returns for the special to support the incredibly busy team.
