A young bride never made it back to her newly-wed husband after she was tragically killed in a wrong-way crash just hours after tying the knot.

Angelica Dhondup, 26, said to still be wearing her purple wedding dress when her life was cut short by an allegedly drunk driver just five hours after she exchanged vows with her other half.

Angelica had gone home to drop off some wedding gifts and was returning to her party when the crash happened at about 1am on Saturday in Salt Lake City, US.

The mum was just a mile away from the venue and made a last call to her sister shortly after the crash.

“She called her and told her that she got into a wreck and she was hurt bad and she couldn’t breathe,” her best friend Tayler Craft said.

“I remember when we would play Barbies, she would always tell me how she was going to have this beautiful wedding,” she added.

According to NBC affiliate KSL of Salt Lake City, the driver was heading southbound in the northbound lanes when he hit Angelica’s car, which was being driven by her 20-year-old cousin while she was in the passenger seat.

Her cousin was taken to hospital but released on Saturday.

The driver who hit the car then allegedly stole a good Samaritan’s truck and fled the scene, police believe.

“She can’t even go to her honeymoon. She can’t even come home to her kids,” said Craft.

She added that she loved Angelica “so much” and said she was “such a good person and such a good mum”.

A vigil was held in Angelica’s honor on Saturday, with distressed friends and family gathering to pay tribute to the “forever bride”.
