After some delays in their wedding, Kimberly Fishman and Mitch Potashner finally tied the knot. But it was a wedding they could never have dreamed of.

With Ontario changing restrictions on weddings, the couple quickly came up with a new plan to get married at Schitt’s Creek’s landmark Rosebud Motel, where guests could either sit in chairs or stay in their cars.

By changing the name of the motel to the Fishpot Motel, a combination of their last names, a plan was set thanks to Fab Fête Event Planning.

“We’ve been trying to get married almost a year after our original wedding date for a while, and all that time we’ve been thinking of something that is safe, yet unique and fun,” Fishman told ET Canada. “In any case, a dream will come true. A dream we didn’t know we had until we thought about it. “

Both of the parents surprised the couple that day by dressing up as Johnny and Moria Rose.

“Some of their interactions on the show are really funny, sometimes they actually remind me of Kim’s parents and my parents too,” Potashner said. “I guess without the wigs and acting career Moria had, but the two are fun together.”

Fishman’s father was often said to look like Eugene Levy.

“They could be brothers,” said Fishman, laughing.

Fans of the show know that David and Patrick’s much-anticipated wedding finally happened, but not without a few glitches – something Fishman and Potashner had to do with.

“A lot of things happen that don’t allow them to have the wedding they originally planned,” said Potashner. “It rained a lot, they had to move the venue, which we had to go through. So yeah, we watched this last episode and it felt almost surreal how close it was to our situation. “

But the wedding surprises didn’t stop there when Dan Levy recorded a video that was played to all of the guests who were livestreaming.

“We had no idea. It was played as part of the ceremony so we heard the sound of it but all the livestream guests were watching it. Of course we looked around after that, ”Fishman recalled.

Potashner added, “Now we can look at it later. It’s something we have on our phones that we can show to our kids one day.”

Since filming is no longer taking place at the motel, the owners brought it to market last year. Could future landmark owners be in their future?

“Maybe we could buy it and move it in,” said Potashner.

“He’s kidding,” Fishman cut in quickly. “It’s for sale and I hope everyone who buys it keeps it the way it is because it’s such a special place and even while we were getting married, so many cars drove by and took pictures and cheered us on. “

“It was really nice to see how many people love this place.”
