Life as a newlyweds got off to a fiery start for a couple in Sydney after a garage fire forced the newlyweds to spend their wedding night with relatives.

Hayden and Hannah Potter returned home on Sunday evening after their wedding to find emergency services outside their Penrith apartment.

When the fire brigade put out a car fire in their underground car park, the wedding party had to stand on the street in evening attire.

“Well, we didn’t have enough fairy lights at the wedding, so now we have these trucks,” Mr. Potter told 9News.

The newlyweds were not allowed to enter the building and instead spent the night in their parents’ house.

The next morning they returned home in a good mood, despite news of the lack of running water, which had been cut off due to fire.

“As many complications as in any wedding, but that was just the icing on the cake, wasn’t it? So it’s all good, ”Mr. Potter said cheerfully.

Bridesmaid Jaime Swavley said it looked like she was sharing a bedroom with the newlyweds.

“At first we thought we’d all have to share the same room, which was a bit crazy. But luckily they could have their own space, ”said Ms. Swavley.
