In February, James “absolutely” denied racially molesting a black Metropolitan Police officer and was told he would have to wait 17 months for his trial.

When he videolinked before Southwark Crown Court, he denied causing racially heightened alarm or stress and another crime of harassment and told the court when charged with the crime: ‘Absolutely not guilty’.
Karim Khalil QC, as defense attorney, has urged the court to postpone the two to three day trial until a twelve week trial is completed in Leeds next April on a related alleged money laundering charge.
Mr. Khalil said, “We are waiting for a more important matter to be heard first. We want the more serious matters to be negotiated first. You will be well known to the court.
“This is a bail case, there are no issues with the terms of detention. The evidence of the crown is either recorded or noted. There is no fear of witnesses trying to recall material. ‘

The gold dealer was warned that he would have to appear at the next court hearing, otherwise an arrest warrant would be issued. When Judge Deborah Taylor asked if he understood, he replied, “I do, my lady.”
