Police called for a disturbance after the Sheffield wedding ended with horns and fireworks

The owner of the Crookes Social Club on Mulehouse Road today apologized to residents for the excitement following the festivities at the venue last night.

Maurice Champeau said he was assured when booking that there would be no disruption and was appalled by the development.

“We received all possible assurances that this would not happen and we apologize deeply for the inconvenience,” he said.

“There weren’t any people attending the event, which was restricted to 30 guests due to lockdown restrictions. It was an entourage that showed up at the end of the night to escort the couple away and decided to fire off fireworks and make that terrible noise in the street.

“We called the police who said they had already been notified by a neighbor and gave the details of our contacts so they could investigate.

“From the comments we received, it appeared that this party went through different parts of Sheffield which caused a stir as they drove to their final destination.

“I’m really sorry but at the end of the day we’re just a small club trying to do whatever we can to survive and I really don’t know what else we could have done on that occasion.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said it was today, Tuesday, April 25.

“The disruption is said to have lasted about half an hour. The investigation is ongoing by the local neighborhood team, ”she added.
