Elephants trample suspected poachers to death in South African national park
Rangers in the Kruger National Park in South Africa discovered the “badly trampled” body of a suspected poacher who was unable to escape a herd of elephants. Kruger is one of the largest game reserves in South Africa and is home to elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards and buffalo. On Saturday, park rangers discovered three suspected poachers and captured one. He told the rangers that one of his companions had come across a herd of elephants and that he was not sure the man had found it out alive. The man’s injured body was later found. The Rangers are still trying to track down a third suspect who sustained an eye injury during the chase. The three men are suspected of attempting to poach rhinos, officials said, and rangers discovered an ax and rifle during their investigation. “The campaign against poaching is the responsibility of all of us,” Gareth Coleman, executive director of Kruger National Park, said in a statement. “It threatens livelihoods, destroys families, and needs much-needed crime-fighting resources that could be used for job creation and development.” More Stories From theweek.comThe new HBO show you can’t stop watching the “highly unlikely” chauvinist trial ends with an “all-round” acquittal.
