Princess Mako and fiance are supposed to prepare for the press conference after the wedding

Princess Mako’s fiancé, Kei Komuro, visited her residence on Sunday, apparently to prepare a joint press conference after the couple’s wedding.

Komuro left the Akasaka property in Tokyo by car around 3:30 p.m. after spending about six hours there. Their wedding and press conference are scheduled for Tuesday.

The fiancé of the 30-year-old princess, who went to New York in August 2018 to study law at Fordham University, saw her in person on the estate last Monday for the first time in more than three years, when she was her parents met.

The marriage had long been put on hold because of an unresolved financial dispute over Komuro’s mother.

Komuro, also 30, returned from the United States last month. He passed the New York state bar exam in July and is expected to hear the results in mid-December.

According to the current rules, women lose their royal status as soon as they marry a commoner. After registering their marriage, the princess is said to move to New York, where Komuro has a job in a law firm.

The Imperial Household Agency will file legal papers Tuesday morning to register the couple’s marriage on their behalf. The press conference they will be holding as husband and wife is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. that same day at a Tokyo hotel.
