PS5 giant Sony unveils new electric car that you can control remotely with an app

SONY is moving away from the usual PlayStation consoles and TVs with a new focus on cars and big tech behind the wheel.

The Japanese company has presented a new futuristic concept with high-tech sensors, 5G and smartphone control as the centerpiece.

Sony takes its ambitions as a motorist seriously

A taster video shows a fancy SUV outfitted with all sorts of kits, including a huge panoramic screen and digital side mirrors.

Loudspeakers were built into each seat in order to offer each passenger an individual audio experience.

Around 40 sensors were packed around the VISION-S concept for self-driving functions such as parking and even suggestions for changing lanes.

Most importantly, users can control the car from their smartphone.

An app shows everything from the battery level to the vehicle settings.

You can even operate the horn, flash the lights and lock or unlock the doors from afar.

The doors can also open automatically when the driver approaches.

And it looks like Sony will be there for the long drive too, as the tech giant has announced it will be starting a new company to accommodate its driving ambitions.

Sony Mobility Inc is expected to launch in the spring as the company seeks to enter the EV market.

Bosses say the new department will make the most of AI and robotic technologies.

The PS5 maker is also researching remote control technology that allows someone else to drive the vehicle to a different location.

Tests have already been carried out between a car in Germany and a controller in Japan with a remote steering wheel, made possible via fast 5G connections.
