Scottish hotel drama most recently as a wedding and sweet sixteen guests among dozen evacuated after a major chemical leak

Guests at a sweet sixteenth and wedding tonight were among dozens of people evacuated from a luxury Scottish hotel following a chemical gas leak.

Emergency services rushed to the McDonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa in Grangemouth at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday after the alarm was raised by staff.

A major inter-agency response remains in the area, with the road to the hotel and part of the venue currently cordoned off.

A major emergency response was triggered

The guests were quickly evacuated by the staff and taken to the parking lot before they were allowed to enter the other side of the hotel some time later.

A senior police officer then arrived and confirmed that a chemical gas had leaked in the pool when first responders asked anyone who had used the recreational facilities to come forward for treatment.

Kyle Mclachlan was a DJ at a 16th birthday party that was held in one of the smaller suites.

He told the Record that the party was evacuated a minute after the first song of the night when the fire alarm went off during Joel Corry’s Sorry.

The police masked the road to the hotel

The 25-year-old said: “The guests arrived at 7:00 p.m. and then around 7:15 p.m. I made my usual safety announcement about the Covid rules and pointed out all emergency exits in the event of a fire alarm.

“I put on the first song of the night to start the party and within a minute the fire alarm went off.

“The staff reacted very quickly and got everyone out of the room.

“The guests were all taken to the parking lot – there was also a wedding taking place – and we were all moved to the back of the parking lot for safety reasons.

“Within 15-20 minutes, two fire engines arrived and then the police came and started putting up and recording barriers.”

The guests were quickly evacuated and left in the parking lot

Kyle continued, “The chief of police came and waited for everyone to come and explain what had happened.

“He said there was a chemical gas leak at the pool – it was chlorine gas. If someone had symptoms or was in the pool, they were told to let them know so they could start treatment.

“About 10 paramedics walked around everyone and asked, ‘Were you at the pool’?

“People were asked if they had symptoms – streaked eyes, shortness of breath. He said it could develop in the next few days and anyone who got symptoms should call NHS 24 and do a triage. “

A separate area has been set up for everyone who needs treatment.

It is assumed that the reception area to the leisure center is still locked and no one is allowed to enter.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were greeted on Sunday the 26th.

“Operations management mobilized two devices and a specialized response to the scene in which crews remain present.”

The Scottish Police confirmed they were present and numerous ambulances and minibuses were photographed at the scene.

It is not known if anyone has been hospitalized.
