See how English floods destroy the cars of confident motorists

A low pressure weather pattern across much of Europe resulted in cooler-than-normal temperatures and significant rainfall, resulting in flooding in many areas of the continent. This, of course, makes more drivers feel brave pushing their vehicles through large amounts of water. According to recent research, around 74 percent of people in any given location in the UK would risk driving through floods.

The BENGREGERS channel on YouTube has a new video going viral with dozens of vehicles attempting to pass the Rufford Mill ford in North Nottinghamshire. Only a few attempts are successful, mostly from delivery vans and buses. Almost every normal car gets stuck in the water due to the deep water or suffers from a flooded engine. Yes, it’s safe to say that it is a painful video to watch.

Turns out this is one of the worst parts of England when it comes to flooding:

“Most of the year the ford is only a few inches deep so it’s not a problem,” Andrew Cox, general manager of a wedding venue near Rufford’s ford, told the BBC.

“But there is a lot of runoff from the surrounding countryside, so the ford can go up to five feet deep and become impassable. Highways England has signs warning people that the road is closed, but sometimes people choose to ignore it. ”

Some motorists seem to think that the faster they get to the ford, the more likely they are to reach the other side of the water. In fact, and this video proves, many vehicles suffer significant engine damage from such a high take-off speed. At the beginning of the video, a good-looking white BMW 3 Series station wagon can be seen that was towed by a Mercedes-Benz X-Class due to damage. To further insult the injury, the car was then towed while it was parked. Ouch.
