On the back of the Shane van Gisbergen ban on racing a Trans Am car by his Supercars team owners Triple Eight Racing, it has emerged that another Supercars star could be stepping up to compete in the category and race the Tim Shaw owned Trans Am Camaro.
Brodie Kostecki has been named as the driver of the Tim Shaw owned #66 Chevrolet Camaro, and it is likely that backing will come from Supercars official communications partner and Erebus Motorsport sponsor Boost Mobile.
While not as high profile as van Gisbergen, Kostecki is a young star of Supercars and this move is sure to frustrate and annoy Supercars heavy weights who are dealing with the public outcry that the banning of SVG created.
The possible backing of Peter Adderton and his Boost Mobile program of the Kostecki Trans Am drive is seen as a response to the SVG ban and comes on the back of his explosive social media activity following Auto Action’s special investigation into the Supercars ownership rift that has been exposed in recent days.
If the deal goes ahead and Kostecki is not also ‘stopped from racing’ in the Trans Am race by his Supercars team owners at Erebus Motorsport for political reasons, it is expected that he would be highly competitive in the Shaw owned Camaro.
Kostecki has raced similar types of cars before, when he competed in several NASCAR sanctioned events in the USA, when he raced in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East over a couple of years.
The next round, round five of the National Trans Am series will be held at the Queensland Raceway’s round of Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships over the weekend of August 5-7
