After a groom fails the simplest “math test”, his bride-to-be cancels the wedding and refuses to marry a man who has no basic math skills.
He never imagined that failing the exam would thwart his marriage plans.
The groom reached the wedding hall with his ‘Baraat’ on Saturday evening, all decked out, but the bride, suspicious of his schooling, asked him to recite the table of two before the garlands could be exchanged.
The groom could not recite the table and the marriage was called off.
Panwari Station House Officer, Vinod Kumar, said it was an arranged marriage and the groom was from Dhawar village in Mahoba district.
Members of the two families and several villagers gathered at the wedding location. Just as the wedding was about to be celebrated, the bride left the mandap and said she could not marry a person who did not know the basics of mathematics. Friends and relatives could not convince the bride.
The bride’s cousin said they were shocked to discover that the groom was illiterate.
“The groom’s family had left us in the dark about his education. He may not even have gone to school. The groom’s family had betrayed us. But my brave sister left without fear of social taboos,” she said.
