The bride returns to Carlisle for the wedding just before the lockdown

A BRIDE born and raised in Carlisle returned to town for her wedding. Sarah Millican moved to York for university after attending the Belle Vue and Caldew schools.

Sarah and Andrew (Drew) Hunter met while working together at the York Theater Royal and have been together since Sarah’s 21st birthday.

They got engaged in April 2019 while spending Easter weekend with friends in Scotland near Drew. Sarah said, “I think it’s worth adding that we selected and bought the ring together a few weeks ago. We passed a store one day and went in to see what size ring I brought over to order one. Even though I knew that, the actual proposal still came as a surprise to me. ”

The couple had planned to get married on April 25 this year, but moved the date to November 14 due to the Covid ban. With the announcement of a second lockdown, they decided to postpone the date and it only took a few days for the new lockdown to organize the church for November 4th. Sarah said, “The pastor at St. Cuthbert’s Church and Emma were very helpful and with a quick response to my SOS email on the Saturday night after the lockdown was announced, everything was moved to Wednesday. They also managed to organize the earlier Highland clothing rental from Slater Menswear in Leeds, where the staff went “beyond measure” to make sure everything went smoothly.

The wedding had a theme that was “very laid back Disney”. Sarah wore a Moira Lee wedding dress that she had bought at the Bridal Factory Outlet in Northallerton. It was then beautifully altered by the amazing girls at Once Upon A Dress in Escrick. Her veil was borrowed from a friend, Lucie Belgrave, who forgot to put it on for her own big day. Lucy also “spruced up” Sarah’s Converse wedding shoes. Bride’s friend Adel Currie took care of the hair and make-up.

Drew’s brother Brian Hunter was his best man and Sarah’s sister Amie Millican was a bridesmaid. Amy Hodges should have been a bridesmaid too, but had only had her first baby three weeks earlier.

The bridal flowers came from Cochrane’s Nurseries, Longtown and Silver Lady Wedding Car Hire supplied the wedding car.

The couple originally booked their reception for 100 guests at the Hidden River Wedding Barn in Longtown and are hoping to hold it next year, but due to current restrictions, they only had a wedding dinner at Drover’s Rest Inn with Sarah’s parents and her best man and bridesmaid .

The wedding cake is from Marks & Spencer and Sarah’s cousin Megan Millican will bake the cake for the reception next year.

The couple originally booked a honeymoon trip to Walt Disney World in April but had to cancel and hope to be able to rebook for next year. They are also hoping for a minimoon to the Lodore Falls Hotel in Borrowdale in December.

The bride is the daughter of Irving and Linda Millican from Carlisle and the father of the groom is Alexander Hunter from Kinghorn, Fife. Wedding photos were taken by Emma Stoszkowski from Emma Stoszkowski Photography.
