A young couple was among the three people killed in a car crash in the Republic of Ireland on New Year’s Eve.
Saoirse Corrigan and her partner Shane Gilchrist, both in their 20s, died in a two-car collision in Kells, County Meath.
The vehicles crashed on the N52 feeder road in Kells, just off the M3 motorway, at around 4.45pm yesterday.
Saoirse and Shane, who were the only occupants of one of the cars, were both killed.
A woman in her 20s, who was driving the second car, was taken to hospital after the head-on collision with serious injuries but was later pronounced dead.

Three children traveling in the second car – two young girls and a 12-year-old boy – were also taken to the hospital.
The boy is said to be in critical condition while the girls sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for a technical investigation, but has now been reopened.

Her family shared their agony at losing her in an obituary published today.
“The death of Saoirse Corrigan, Whitehall, Castlepollard, occurred tragically on Friday 31 December following an accident,” it read.

Deepest regrets from her loving mother Orlene, loving father Michael, Andy, Keri, brothers Cathal and Cillian, sisters Brónagh and Gráinne, grandparents Michael-John, Josephine and Beatrice, uncles, aunts, extended family, all staff and Students from St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff and a large circle of friends.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly road users who were in the area at the time.

In a post on Twitter, the Minister for Europe said: “My deepest sympathy for the families of the bereaved and my prayerful thoughts for the injured.”
Gardai has launched a call for information from witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage who were in the area and have been asked to come forward.
A Garda spokesman said: “Kells Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic accident involving two cars on the N52, Lloyds, Kells, Co. Meath which occurred just after 4pm on 31/12/2021.
“Any person traveling in the area or with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Gardaí in Kells on 046 9280820.
3 people (2 women and 1 man, all in their 20s were deceased), 3 children were taken to hospital for treatment. Gardaí have completed a forensic examination of the crime scene and the investigation is ongoing.’
