There is grief in Limerick after a young man was killed in a terrible traffic accident just hours before his wedding.

Myles ‘Miley’ Harty was killed in a collision with a single vehicle on the R518 from Askeaton to Rathkeale at around 1am on Saturday morning.

Mr Harty, 20, was a passenger in the car that was off the road and hit a mast in the Cragmore area of County Limerick.

The young driver was arrested at the scene and a second passenger was taken to hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” a statement from Garda said.

Tributes have been inundated for Mr. Harty, who has been described as “a fine young man” and “the nicest you have ever met”.

The local priest, Father Seán, told Longaigh The Irish Times that his tragic death was “very sad”.

“It’s very sad for the families,” he said.

“You’re moving from a wedding to a funeral now; our thoughts and prayers are with family. Myles was a local youngster, he went to local school, he had an awful lot of relationships at Askeaton.”

Mr. Harty leaves behind his “loving parents Miley and Margaret, sisters Noreen, Margaret and Nicole, brother Jimmy, fiancee Kate Quilligan, niece Amelia, sister-in-law Connie and Eddie, other relatives and friends,” according to his obituary.
