[Video] The Future of V8 Supercars sounds epic

But, the series has been working on the future, and it’s as much of a step back in time as it is a step forward – in a good way we think. Rather than family saloons, the new generation of V8 supercars has gone muscle – it’s Chevrolet Camaro vs Ford Mustang from now on.

While this might seem a step away from tradition, it’s really not. The period in the late ’90s and through the ’00s, filled with saloons, may look like something of a heyday – high viewerships, brilliant racing, and later five manufacturers – it’s not how Supercars has always been. In fact, if you go back to the Bathurst 1000 in the 1980s you’ll see it filled with loud, brilliant coupes.

So this is as much of a return to “the good old days” as it is a step into the new world. And here we have footage of the new cars in action on track. The best news of all? While we nearly went V6 a few years ago, these cars are still very much V8s and very, very, very loud. May the good times roll back in.
