This is the BEST NEWS! So many times have I felt in danger on my bike from riders on Church Street. It’s not suitable for heavy traffic at all. Although I am concerned about where this diverted traffic will go on the already congested streets of Hackney. https://t.co/UbDJBMsz3u

After a week full of noise and social media banter, we’re starting Friday on a positive note. Labor MP Diane Abbott shared the news that in her constituency in Hackney, cars, vans and trucks will be banned from main roads during the day to encourage cycling and walking. As part of a plan to improve air quality and traffic safety, from September 20, only buses, emergency vehicles and holders of the blue sticker will be allowed to use the road between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Transport for London funded the 18-month program, and some are hoping the main road can copy others nearby, such as Orford Road and Francis Road in neighboring “Mini Holland” Waltham Forest.

Additionally, the response has been pretty positive … even considering the abuse and disapproval Abbott gets under every tweet by default.

I lived on Church Street, one of my favorite neighborhoods in London. Church Street without the racing cars would have been wonderful!

24 years too late for me, but satisfied for the current locals. Hat tilted.

And although most of the top answers have the usual anti-LTN arguments: modal shift, what about those who need access etc, but even the negatives were weighed by reasonable answers …

Yes. Walking and running become easier and more enjoyable. Holders of the blue ID are still allowed around the clock

There is a parking lot on Kirchstrasse. It won’t close.
