This has since been communicated by Volvo, which warned that the first generation S40 and V40 will be affected by the problem.
In a statement to Express.co.uk said the company said the E10 has been approved for use in all cars except a small number of models built in the early 1990s.
A spokesman for Volvo Car UK said: “As stated in the ACEA report, E10 fuel is approved for use in every petrol Volvo car produced since 1976, with the exception of a very small number of the first generation S40s and V40s the 1990s models with the 1.8 GDI engine.
“If a Volvo owner has any questions or concerns about which fuel is suitable for their car, we will of course be happy to help.”
