People meet and fall in love in all sorts of strange and unusual circumstances, and Lizzy and Nikki certainly have an interesting story to tell.

The smitten pair first locked eyes while working for the ambulance service in Northampton, and for Lizzy, it was “love at first sight”, despite their first face-to-face meeting being admittedly a bit awkward.

Having emailed back and forth about general work stuff, they finally had their first in-person chat while Nikki was sorting out Lizzy’s uniform, instructing her to head into the bathroom to change.

Feeling quite “flustered” at the sight of her new crush, Lizzy told The Mirror that she simply “dropped my trousers there and then much to my embarrassment which we still laugh at now”.

They didn’t speak again for about another year and a half when they were fortuitously placed on a shift together.

During that first shared shift, Lizzy plucked up the courage to tell Nikki how she felt about her. Happily, it turned out that her feelings were reciprocated, with Nikki admitting she’d Googled Lizzy during their email exchange and had “liked the look of me then”.

Lizzy recalled: “Romance blossomed the first time we worked together, we had a really good shift and had a long chat on the way home and since then we messaged each other regularly, asking to be put on shift together”.

This was back in 2016. They began seeing each other just a few short days later, with their first date taking place at Warner Bros. Studios The Making of Harry Potter exhibition.

‘Romance blossomed’ during their first-ever shift

According to Lizzy, they are both “extremely nerdy and have many geeky collections” including Harry Potter memorabilia. They also have a unit designated especially for their “ambulance collection, with ambulance toys and memories for us”.

The couple, who have now been together for six years, has since gone a step further with their ambulance collection, purchasing a full-blown ambulance which they’ve transformed into an adventure-ready campervan.

Lizzy said: “We have traveled a lot in it. Just the UK for now, but we love Norfolk as a whole to go to, we stay with our paramedic friend who also has her own camper a lot”.

The loved-up couple, who are telling their story as part of a romantic round-up for Blue Light Card, a discount service for emergency workers, are still in the process of doing up their unique campervan, with Lizzy admitting that the outside still needs finishing off.

However, she has described the “old 1994 ford transit box body ambulance with a 3lt petrol engine” as being “perfect to us”.

Lizzy explained that their ambulance “means so much to us, not just because of our jobs but because of our relationship”, being a reminder of how they met and fell for each other.

Although they aren’t officially engaged just yet, Lizzy also hopes to incorporate their ambulance into their future wedding ceremony.

She said: “We are not engaged yet, despite talking about it for ages, Nikki has told me that she wants to ask me and I’m to wait! But we have always said that we wanted a full ambulance for the wedding with Blue lights and one of our friends has said she wants to drive it for us! All planned, just waiting”.
