Wedding in the shopping center: Organizer praises unique event and wedding celebration as a great success

The Mercat in Kirkcaldy was the venue for its first major wedding reception last weekend, with stalls and activities spread across the mall.

The event also included a live wedding ceremony when local couple Michelle Gerrard and Stephen Meldrum were selected in a competition to tie the knot behind closed doors at the mall on Saturday.

The free event Wedding & Events Fantasia took place over two days and was organized by LJ Events by lj.

It featured 50 suppliers from all areas of the wedding and event industry and included boutique displays, live models and a grill station with roast spit.

Lisa Ferguson, owner of LJ Events by lj, said, “I’ve never seen The Mercat so busy.

“On both days and with a gap between suppliers, we managed to fill the center from one end to the other with a huge selection of fabulous suppliers from the wedding and event industry.

“It was also fabulous to see so many customers just enjoying themselves and soaking up the atmosphere while also engaging with my amazing suppliers who frankly couldn’t have been more friendly and informative – everyone was great fun.

“I also had the greatest pleasure witnessing Michelle and Stephen’s private ceremony and was grateful to be invited to their wedding reception on Sunday night, which was donated by The Dean Park Hotel, Grand Dreams & Fife Wedding Entertainment.”

She praised Alasdair Irving, Mercat manager and his team for hosting the event and thanked all the shopkeepers who supported the Fayre.

Lisa also said the event was so successful that she was asked to host more large events and wedding parties next year.

She continued, “I’ve already been asked to host Fantasia 2 for 2022 and gladly accepted. Thank you The Mercat for having me back.

“There won’t be another live wedding ceremony next time though, Michelle and Stephens was a once in a lifetime event and will be their experience only.”

She also thanked Kirkcaldy Community Radio Station K107FM for participating in the event.

“K107 was there from the start with support, encouragement, advice, constant contact and a lot of airplay,” she said.

“The local radio station also helped with the special phone call that Michelle made informing her that she had won the competition.

“Alex Airnes and K107fm were definitely a big part of the Fantasia / Mercat marriage.

“The triangle Mercat, lj Events, K107fm” and without them we would not have been where we were. “

She added, “I’m just so proud of how everyone with such a community spirit came together and brought the Mercat mall back to life.

“It looks like this will continue after seeing what The Mercat has in store for the coming weeks and months.”
