Ford veteran Will Davison has recovered from a horrific day to break the Hidden Valley lap record in consecutive qualifying sessions at Darwin.
Davison slumped to 14th in the opening race of the lap on Saturday, but set out to make up for it on Sunday, taking pole position for both 38-lap races after taking two flying cars in his Ford Mustang Had done laps.
It’s the first time Davison has started from pole since joining the Shell V-Power team this season.
“I’ve had a rough couple of days … I didn’t get much sleep last night,” said Davison.
“I was annoyed with myself because it is a great honor to drive for Shell V-Power Racing.
“We all work very well together, but it was difficult, we had a few small issues that kept us from getting a run.
“We’re here to win, we’ve shown how fast the car is, so I’m relieved for now.”
Davison is hoping to do better than teammate Anton De Pasquale from pole position on Saturday as the young man was caught in an early tangle to force him out of the race before the end of the first lap.
The championship leader Shane van Gisbergen will be Davison at the front of the grid in the first race, which starts at 12.25 p.m.
De Pasquale will start from third to make up for his disastrous first appearance.
Holden ace Chaz Mostert, who won the Saturday race in eighth place after qualifying, starts again in ninth place.
