McLaren CEO Zak Brown has thrown his support behind the idea of the ever-popular Supercars series supporting Formula 1 in Singapore, and has heard “conversations” about such a move taking place.

The Australian series has long been on the support schedule for Formula 1 in its visits Down Under, and the four races over the course of the Australian Grand Prix weekend now make up the Melbourne 400 round of the season in Supercars, having previously been a non -championship event before 2018.

But with the series also looking to broaden its horizons, with several rounds having taken place outside of Australia in the past alongside an annual race in New Zealand, the McLaren CEO revealed he has heard a run out around Marina Bay could also be possible in the future for the touring car series – and he wants to see it happen.

“Yeah, I totally support that idea. I think that would be awesome for Supercars,” Brown told Speedcafe’s KTM Summer Grill show when asked about the prospect of the series supporting Formula 1 in Singapore.

“It’s a great market, relevant territory, I’ve heard that there’s been some conversations, and I would be a big supporter.

“I think it would be great in Singapore for the Grand Prix, and I think it would be great for Supercars. So I’m a big advocate if Supercars ended up in Singapore. I hope it happens.”

Formula 1 support series change from race to race, with the FIA’s own Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships taking place at selected rounds of the season, as well as Porsche Supercup and W Series races also appearing as support events through the course of the year.

Shane van Gisbergen became Supercars champion for a third time with a dominant 2022 season, taking a record 21 race victories, including two with Formula 1 present at Albert Park in April, through the year as the New Zealander claimed a comfortable title win.
