A COUPLE who was married yesterday was caught in a BMW after their wedding, Greater Manchester police reported.
Police officers posted a picture of a wedding car that they said was traveling at 47 mph on a 30 mph pedestrian street in Radcliffe yesterday – more than 50 percent over the speed limit.
A post on GMP Traffic’s official Twitter page read: “Moments after getting married, this newlyweds was measured yesterday in Radcliffe by #TransportUnit & #SCIU at a speed of 47 mph in a 30-mile zone.”
“To Have & To Hold” your driver’s license (sic) is a privilege. Don’t risk losing it.
“#speedgunhochzeit.”
Greater Manchester Police’s decision to reprimand the couple has sparked some debate online.
One user wrote: “Hand out fines on their wedding day. I heard they were going too fast. But their wedding day. Wow. I’m sure a direct, serious conversation would have been enough. ”
While a second replied: “No, drive too fast and accept the penalty.”
Another added: “Who runs your social media? Regardless of the legality, GMP looks like insensitive petty people who can’t run a social media campaign without setting foot in it
A fourth joked, “Let’s hope the marriage lasts longer than their license.”
The current coronavirus rules state that weddings can only take place in exceptional cases with a maximum of six people.
According to the government, these could increase to 30 people from May 17.
Greater Manchester Police were contacted for a response and to find out how the couple were punished for the speeding offense.
