Four supercars teams will be banned

Queensland Raceway falls in the region that is closed today

Queensland has announced a three-day lockdown following a COVID-19 outbreak in the southeastern part of the state.

The announcement was made this morning after seven cases were discovered yesterday.

“There are now seven cases in the outbreak we reported yesterday,” said Queensland Deputy Prime Minister Steven Miles.

“We have seen from experience in other states that the only way to defeat the Delta Tribe is to act quickly.

“And so are the 11 LGAs today from 4 p.m. [Local Government Areas] who currently have a mask requirement will be blocked.

“This will be the toughest lockdown we’ve ever had.”

These LGAs are: Brisbane City, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Redland City, Scenic Rim, Somerset and Sunshine Coast.

This catchment area includes the current workshops of four Supercars teams, namely Triple Eight Race Engineering, Dick Johnson Racing, Matt Stone Racing and Team Sydney.

The latter has been temporarily set up at its alternative Tekno Autosport headquarters in Yatala for some time, given the severity of the greater Sydney outbreak.

The announcement comes at a good time like any other for supercars, but it wasn’t until yesterday that a revised 2021 calendar was confirmed, with the season not resuming until October.

It looks like the lockdown in southeast Queensland is due to end on Tuesday, August 3 at 4:00 p.m.
