Back to the good books! Andy Murray reveals he’s reunited with his wedding ring

Andy Murray has announced that he is back in the “good books” with his wife Kim after getting his stolen wedding ring back.

The three-time Grand Slam winner, 34, is in California for the Indian Wells tournament, where he was granted a wild card to compete.

But on his last trip to the US, a disaster struck when his ring – which was attached to his “smelly” tennis shoes – was lost stolen after his own “terrible idea” of leaving her under his car overnight and leaving him in the dog house in the UK.

It has been described by Murray as an “idiotic” decision to dry his sweaty shoes, which resulted in them being stolen, but after massive efforts by his fans on social media, Murray has now returned his things.

Murray posted a photo to his 1.7 million Instagram followers and revealed himself holding his wedding ring and sniffing his shoes.

He added five hashtags to mark the positive update: #ring, #shoes, #stinch, #goodbooks, and #idiot.

‘Believe it, ring the doorbell and the shows are back home!’ he wrote.

“You still smell terrible, but I’m back in the good books.”

In an accompanying video, Murray said, “Hi everyone, hope you are all well. I just wanted to send a quick message to thank you for all the messages and also to everyone who shared the story about the shoes and wedding ring.

“I had to make a few calls today and talk to security at the hotel and everything and a little update for everyone … would you believe it?”

Murray sniffs one of his shoes again vigorously before adding: ‘They still totally stink, but the shoes are back, the wedding ring is back and I’m back in the good books, let’s go!’

WTA Tour star Sloane Stephens commented on the good news well-wishers, who commented, ‘Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank God!!!!!!!’

The British player Naomi Broady led the calls for more and wrote: “NO WAY !!! We need an explanation !! ‘

Murray can’t wear his wedding ring in the square so he always ties it to his shoelaces for safe keeping, but on that occasion he seemed to have forgotten he was there. The former world number 1 was then forced to appeal on social media for the safe return of his ring.

Murray shared his tale of suffering in an Instagram video: “Last night after dinner in Indian Wells, I got back in the car to return to the hotel and the car didn’t smell good.

“I left my tennis shoes in and it was 38 ° C, so my shoes were very sweaty, damp and smelly.

“When I got back to the hotel, I decided that the shoes needed some air to dry them a little. I don’t have a balcony in my room and I didn’t want to leave them in my room as it would stink the room.

“So I thought I’d leave the shoes under the car to get some air and dry them overnight. When I got back to the car in the morning, my shoes were gone.

“My tennis shoes for the tournament were stolen, so I had to go to a local pro shop to buy a variety of shoes. Not the end of the world, but not ideal.

‘As I was preparing for my practice, my physical therapist said to me, “Where’s your wedding ring?” And I was like “oh no”.

“When I play, I tie my wedding ring to my shoes because I can’t play with it on my hand. So my wedding ring was stolen too, so of course I’m at home in the bad books, so I want to try to find it.

“So if someone can share this or have any idea where they are, it would be very helpful if I could get it back or get to the bottom of them.”

In the caption, Murray said, “Yeah, I know I’m an idiot, and in hindsight it seems like a terrible idea, but I need help. What’s the reward for getting it back? ‘

He then followed with the hashtags #ring #shoes #idiot #help #clown.

After his marriage to Kim Sears in April 2015, Murray came up with a novel way to keep his ring secure.

At his first tournament after his wedding, the BMW Open in Munich, Murray attached the ring to the laces of his Adidas sneakers.

They served as good luck charms for him when he won the tournament, and he said at the time, “I won’t lose it if it is tied on my shoelace. As soon as the game is over, I’ll put it back on. If I had kept it in my pocket, I would have lost it. ‘
