At 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, the Victorian government removed Townsville from the list of red border zones and reclassified it to an orange zone.
Under this classification, newcomers only need to be tested for COVID-19 and isolated until they get a negative result.
Had that not changed, all employees at Supercars based in Melbourne faced a full 14-day quarantine after returning from the Townsville 500 the next weekend.
Walkinshaw Andretti United, Team 18, Erebus Motorsport, Kelly Grove Racing, Tickford Racing and the Blanchard Racing Team are all based in the Victorian capital.
The postponement of the border essentially clears the final hurdle for the Townsville event after a week of uncertainty.
This was triggered by a lockdown in Townsville early last week after a positive COVID case traveled to the northern city from Brisbane.
When the lockdown ended, Supercars was able to give the Townsville 500 the go-ahead despite concerns from Melbourne teams about limit classification.
Supercars is still working on adding a second Townsville event from July 17-18, though a lack of accommodation is viewed as a complication in the double head plan.
