Bride causes chaos by forbidding fiance’s elderly grandma from wedding reception

A woman has sparked outrage after excluding her fiance’s 98-year-old grandmother from her wedding reception.

The bride-to-be said she doesn’t want the grandmother at the wedding reception because she wants there to be a “party atmosphere” and the elderly relative is “out of place”.

“My fiancé and I are getting married next month. Everything is going great but we had a serious argument about having his grandmother at our wedding,” she wrote in a post on Reddit.

“We have agreed not to have children at our wedding as we want the reception to be a huge party for your adult friends and family with dancing, loud music and an open bar.

“But for the same reasons we don’t want kids there, I don’t want his elderly grandmother at our wedding either.”

The bride, who has no living grandparents of her own, said the grandmother could attend the ceremony but not the reception.

“It’s going to be extremely loud and I want it to be a party atmosphere and it’s going to be extremely out of place. For context, none of my grandparents are still alive and he still has his last living grandmother,” she continued.

Her request has understandably caused a massive argument in the family, and now the grandmother doesn’t want to speak to her.

“This caused a huge argument as she said she always dreamed of being at her grandson’s wedding (he’s her eldest grandchild and she probably won’t make it to the next family wedding),” she added.

“He and she both insist that she will be fine and that she wants to go to the party. But all I know is that it will inevitably lead to us taking care of her and taking care of her, and I just want to get drunk and let loose with my friends.

“She’s really upset now and doesn’t want to talk to me and my fiancee is angry too. I think I have the right to make this request, after all I am the bride.”

The post has since gone viral on Twitter, with some users calling the bride “selfish” and suggesting the fiancé call off the engagement.

One user commented: “I hope he ends the engagement because if she’s willing to ban his GRANDMOTHER from the reception he’s in for a horrible ride. And not because grandmother did anything to her, but because she is uncomfortable. I feel so awful for his grandmother, it must be so hurtful.”

Another added: “I can only think how much I would give for my grandparents to be able to be there at my future wedding. That’s such a horrible thing to do to someone you love.”

A third commented: “If I were the groom I would call off this engagement. His grandmother might want him to get married, but not to someone as selfish as this.”
