Britain’s unluckiest bride and groom share wedding disasters

BRITAIN’S unluckiest bride and groom had a series of wedding disasters — including her breaking three ribs when he dropped her.

Jim and Amelia Desmond had already postponed their big day three times because of Covid but that was just the beginning of their woes.

The rings did not turn up and neither did the limo taking Jim to the church, leaving guests waiting for nearly an hour.

Then they ended up in A&E after romantic Jim, 40, attempted to carry Amelia, 41, to bed — only to get tangled in her gown and send her crashing to the floor with a bone-crunching thud.

They also missed two flights to their Ibiza honeymoon because they lost the bag with their passports, and had to call a locksmith when they got back after leaving their keys in Spain.

The couple also left a suitcase in a taxi and missed their coach while trying to get away on honeymoon.

Amelia told The Sun: “Everything that could possibly go wrong did. It was one thing after another.

“There was one point where I just burst into tears — it was the final straw when we got back and realized the car and house keys were nowhere to be found.”

The couple, who have a nine-year-old daughter plus five more children between them from previous relationships, had ordered their £900 rings from an online seller.

But the delivery to their flat was signed for by an unknown neighbor they could not trace.

The day before their wedding, they had to order two more for next day delivery and they, thankfully, arrived in time.

But the limo ordered to take council worker Jim and his eight groomsmen to the church did not show up, leaving them to order a convoy of taxis.

Amelia was told to wait at home and the ceremony finally kicked off 50 minutes late.

After the hotel reception with 130 guests, they checked into the honeymoon suite and Jim said: “I decided I was the muscle man she always wanted and swept her off her feet.”

After he dropped her, she thought she had just been winded but woke up in agony and unable to move.

They went to the hospital, but the pair later ignored advice not to head off for the honeymoon.

And after finally getting there, they enjoyed a blissful few days before disaster struck again with the keys.

The exasperated couple, of Wallingford, Oxon, paid several hundred pounds for a locksmith.

But Amelia added: “All the disasters were worth it — I got to marry my soulmate and the man of my dreams! We see the funny side now and we laugh about it all the time — it was still the best day of our lives.”
