BYD to deliver 1,200 electric cars to Costa Rica

In Central America, BYD will deliver 1,200 units of its electric compact SUV Yuan Pro EV to Costa Rica this year. The electric car will be sold under the name S1 Pro by partner Cori Motors.

The BYD Yuan Pro should not be confused with the BYD Yuan Plus. The Yuan Plus is an electric SUV based on BYD’s 800-volt electric platform 3.0, and sales only started this February. The BYD Yuan Pro was introduced last year. While it is only eight centimeters shorter than the Yuan Plus, it is placed significantly below it with simpler technology. The Yuan Pro is available in China at prices starting at 79,800 yuan (11,320 euros), while the Yuan Plus starts at 141,800 yuan (19,700 euros).

BYD states the NEDC range of the Yuan Pro – or Cori S1 Pro in Costa Rica – as 401 kilometers. The permanently excited synchronous motor has an output of 100 kW, and the maximum torque is 210 Nm. According to reports, there is also a DC charger to charge the battery to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.

BYD says it has been the market leader for New Energy Vehicles in Costa Rica for three years in a row. In the first quarter of 2022, BYD secured about 50 per cent of the local NEV market, with sales growing 220 per cent year-on-year.
