Crash kills Amherst woman walking home from 50th wedding anniversary celebration

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – An Amherst woman was injured in an accident on Interstate 90 last weekend.

Carolyn Huston’s family told 19 News that she died Thursday after being in the hospital for days.

Barbara Peterson, Huston’s sister, said she drove home from her 50th wedding anniversary celebration.

The crash occurred on Saturday, October 9th, on I-90 heading west near the West 14th Street exit.

Huston’s other sister, Joyce Sibert, told Kristin Mazur on 19 News that her sister’s family had dinner in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood before the crash.

“You invited your children to a dinner party there. It was a wonderful evening, ”said Sibert. They just glowed. Everything was perfect that evening. “

But the perfect quickly faded and the pain of the worst kind soon hit.

“At first it was a shock that they could have an accident after such a beautiful evening,” said Sibert.

Sibert said a drag racing driver crashed into the vehicle occupied by her sister, her sister’s husband and one of the couple’s daughters. Her sister was taken to the hospital in critical condition and passed away days later. Meanwhile, Sibert said her brother-in-law and niece were seriously injured but are expected to be fine.

“I think people need to realize that cars are deadly weapons,” Sibert told 19 News.

Cleveland police are investigating, Sibert said, and have not yet made an arrest.

“Your granddaughters are getting older and so are their grandchildren. There were dreams and hopes of rocking their babies one day. And that’s all gone, ”said Sibert.
