EV charging points in 18 car parks in Pembrokeshire

As more motorists use Pembrokeshire’s parking lots, electric vehicle drivers are reminded that many of the locations have electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

A partnership between Pembrokeshire County Council and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has provided publicly accessible charging stations at 18 locations across the county.

“As the council, we are committed to net zero by 2030 and electric vehicles are one of the focal points of this work in terms of decarbonising transport,” said Cllr Phil Baker, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure.

The EV charging stations are located in centrally located parking lots so that users can visit local shops and attractions while their cars are charging.

The project was designed and commissioned by the council infrastructure team, funded by the Welsh Government and implemented by Silverstone Green Energy of Narberth.

Charging is currently charged free of charge with 30 p / kWh for the electricity consumed.

Cllr Baker said the use of publicly available charging infrastructure for electric cars has already increased significantly across the county.

“The joint project between Pembrokeshire County Council and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority will roll out electric vehicle charging points at an additional 11 locations in Pembrokeshire by the end of 2021,” he said.

“We hope that our contribution to a nationwide charging network for electric cars will enable consumers to confidently switch from combustion to electric cars and vans.”

Cllr Paul Harries, Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, added, “These charging stations will help promote sustainable transport and enable organizations and individuals to make greater use of electric vehicles and the general response to the climate change emergency support.”
