Oh god, it’s halftime, we have no more exercise, the kids seem to take up a lot more space in the suitcase and in the car (their clothes in the suitcase, their actual bodies in the car). And of course we are nowhere abroad with reliable weather, so there is no hand luggage, only shorts / T-shirts / swimwear, light packaging. No, there are shorts, wetsuits, waterproof full bodies, a windbreak, a groundsheet, a replacement set of everything if / when everything gets wet, blankets, sunscreen, woolen hats, sun hats … maybe we should just stay at home?
Benno Bike Boost E CX
A bit of a change from our normal programming, but all of the bikes are great and the ones that leave the car at home are even better. This utility bike is equipped with a Bosch CX motor and Shimano Deore brakes to give it a try in the mountain bike world. It even has some large off-road tires reminiscent of Maxxis Hookworms, but we won’t reach this beast’s skate park ramps. Hopefully, however, it will handle school runs, large grocery stores, and maybe a hill or two picnics. We’ve set it up in a pretty basic pannier style at the moment, but if accessories are included we’re hoping to add a few different child seats and maybe a front luggage rack as well. The weight limits are impressive (with its 130 pound capacity, it can carry up to a 13 year old child alone on the rack or a whole stack of groceries and a smaller child) and it fits riders from 5’1 “to 6” ‘3 . We are interested in how practical utility biking can be in our very hilly and semi-rural area.

Evans Cycles is apparently 100 years old – although things have clearly changed since the first Evans bike shop in London in 1921. For the occasion, we were sent biscuits (now eaten), a mahoosive bell (waiting for a suitable bike). and a breakdown repair kit (stowed in the garage waiting for an incident with an old tubular). Happy birthday Evans, we are 80 years younger than you!
ION Scrub Amp Shoes

These flat pedal shoes are available in four different colors and sizes 4-12. The tread patterns are different for each purpose and are designed to be good on and off the bike. Ions have what they call “Pin Tonic Sole Concept 2.0” with a toe and heel profile that is great for walking, while the midsole has a negative profile and is great for grip. With additional toe and ankle protection, they are also comfortable to wear.
