Halewood factory as part of Ford’s electric drive | Companies

Hopes are growing that Ford will convert its transmission operations in Halewood on Merseyside to the production of corresponding electric drive systems for electric cars.

If the American auto company chooses to do so, the move would likely create hundreds of jobs. It would also be a bonus for the UK electric car industry, which is lagging behind its European competitors.

Ford reportedly made a decision within weeks of a substantial investment to convert its Halewood operations to an electric future.

Industry sources have confirmed that the Merseyside facility leads the way in its thinking.

Ford, which stopped building cars in the UK two decades ago, declined to comment on decisions but said electrification was going “all in”.
