The auto parts and accessories retailer took on the title sponsorship of supercars this year under a high-profile contract, while also securing the naming rights for a number of key events, including the Mount Panorama 500 and Bathurst 1000.
As part of the landmark deal, Repco has pledged to bring its on-site fan zone known as The Garage to a range of events.
The garage made its first appearance on The Bend, with a two-story observation deck at the end of the main straight.
According to the brand’s sponsorship director Mitch Wiley, this was both a learning experience and a starting point to better improve the garage as the season progresses.
“We wanted to get feedback from the fans to make sure we were improving their experience. And that will grow from here,” said Wiley.
“We want to learn from the fans, we want the fans to tell us what they want from us. We don’t want to be arrogant.
“The feedback [from The Bend] was really positive. Some of the feedback we weren’t expecting was that people were pleasantly surprised that we had activities for kids. We had the mini golf challenge, a ping pong table, bespoke stickers and everything kids loved.
“And the relationship with Dick Johnson Racing really helped because they proactively supported us. Having DJR rider Will [Davison] and Anton [De Pasquale] Coming on site was fantastic. “
The garage is freely accessible throughout the season. There are plans to even travel to New Zealand for the Auckland SuperSprint in November.
“One of the things we noticed is that the challenge on any track is getting a good view of the track,” added Wiley. “And to have somewhere where you are welcome and there is no cost.
“That’s where we invest our money to make sure we can offer it to the fans. We want to make sure we improve the fan experience at events. And what we had at The Bend is just a variation of that.
“You will see the structure grow at larger events like Townsville. Repco is serious.”
