Return of the Super Cruise, chip shortage is on the decline

It seems like we turned around every time; There was another problem in the automotive supply chain, not least due to the global chip shortage that has existed for over a year. Without a clear end to the shortage, automakers have made unprecedented adjustments to get vehicles off the assembly line and into the hands of customers. Rather than shutting down production facilities at the kink in the supply chain, General Motors has taken a different perspective on the issue. By simply removing the functions based on the semiconductor chip, they were able to keep production going. But now there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel and the Cadillac Escalade is set to see the return of its best qualities after being temporarily unavailable for the 2022 model. Right, Super Cruise is back.

Cadillac Escalade Super Cruise 2022 return

According to the official configurator, all fairings for the Cadillac Escalade 2022, with the exception of the luxury base model, can be ordered with the Super Cruise option on the Cadillac website. As an option for $ 2,500, customers can get their hands free with the level 3 semi-autonomous driving system exclusively offered by GM; one that is a class leading technology. Since the SUV starts at $ 75,000 (although ATP is much higher), that price really doesn’t seem that drastic, and it’s definitely worth it.

There is speculation that the global shortage of semiconductor microchips will last until next year and maybe even until 2023. Things are looking up now, however, as DigiTimes Asia recently published an article giving more details on the delivery improvements for the chips. According to reports, inventories of five major automotive chip makers rose within the third quarter, which could be an indication that the shortage is easing. Despite a positive turn in supply scarcity, high demand is likely to cause the scarcity to persist through 2022. But it still seems to be easing, which is progress.
