Roads flooded, this Kerala couple used a cook ship to reach their wedding

On the morning of their wedding on Monday, October 18, the bride and groom discovered that the roads leading to the temple were flooded due to the incessant rainfall in Kerala.

A young couple in Alappuzha district worried about getting to the temple in time for their wedding on Monday, October 18, because of the soaked roads due to heavy and incessant rainfall in Kerala. However, they were determined to get to the temple in time, the convenient time for the wedding ritual. Since it would be difficult for cars to drive over flooded roads, they quickly thought of an alternative means of transport – a traditional copper cooking vessel. The couple traveled nearly 500 meters on the traditional copper cookship to get married on Monday morning at a local temple in Thakazhi, near Alappuzha.

The bride Aishwarya and the bridegroom Rahul, both from the same place, had their wedding at the local temple of Thakazhi. On Monday, however, it was a steep uphill, because by then the roads had disappeared and the water flowed through the whole area. Since torrential rains hit the state on Friday afternoon, some of which lasted until Sunday October 17, the Kuttanad area of Alappuzha had been flooded by heavy rains and the roads remained completely submerged.

All decked out to reach the temple, the bride and groom sat in the traditional copper rice cooker and arrived at the temple, and according to the scheduled ‘muhurthum’ (auspicious time) they were married in the presence of the temple priest.

There were a handful of relatives in attendance and the wedding hall was also flooded. However, the stage on which the ceremony took place was not under water.

“We were not afraid to take the ship,” said Rahul excitedly, while Aishwarya said, “We are all happy that the wedding took place at the convenient time that was planned.”

A relative who organized the ‘boat trip’ said, “Some areas near the temple were almost under water, but we managed to get both the bride and groom in time.”

Aishwary and Rahul are reportedly involved in healthcare.
