What is Gitex Dubai 2021? Check out the latest innovations in AI, robots, and supercars

The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition, or better known as Gitex, is a technology exhibition and conference that takes place in Dubai every year.

The exhibits include computers, robots, supercars and the latest smartphones – but this is not a shopping event.

Instead, it’s an opportunity for the general public and tech people to see the world’s most futuristic inventions and get a feel for the latest trends.

Last year, despite the pandemic, the conference was held in person, and it featured flying taxis, a planet-hopping robot, and a humanized android called Adran.

In 2019, Moley Robotics introduced a robot that cooks and cleans.

This year marks the 41st edition of the event and more than 3,000 technology companies will be exhibiting, including big names like Avaya, Etisalat, Epson, Huawei, Cisco, Ericsson, VMware, AWS, Honeywell, Dell Technologies, Kaspersky and Infor.

Star speakers

In addition to all the fascinating inventions, thought leaders, ministers and tech superstars from all over the world take part in several conferences every year that take place parallel to the exhibition.

This includes events that focus on specific technology trends such as AI, FinTech, Blockchain, and Health Technology.

Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Digital Economy, AI and Remote Working System, is one of more than 450 speakers this year.

Wei Li, Vice President and General Manager of Machine Learning Performance at Intel, Maxim Parshin, Russia’s Deputy Minister for Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, and futurologist Tannya Jajal will also share their views on the latest technology trends.

Entrepreneurs, young people, coding and women in the tech industry will be at the fore, with skills development and barrier breaking programs and workshops on coding, marketing and cybersecurity solutions also available to delegates and visitors.

Thousands of technology enthusiasts are expected this year.

It has historically attracted 150,000 people, although these are pre-pandemic numbers.

But it’s the latest positive sign of recovery as the UAE returns to hosting world-class events.

Not only does Expo 2020 Dubai attract large crowds every day, the Dubai Airshow will take over the emirate in November for its largest event to date.

The anticipation is also growing for the hosting of the T20 Cricket World Cup in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, which will take place in the Emirates after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League.

Tickets start at Dh 180 for visiting the exhibition and go up to Dh 350 for those who also want to take part in the conferences and workshops.
