Should you really get an electric car? | Money

More than a quarter of a million fully electric vehicles were registered in the UK last year — 40.1 per cent more than the year before. They represent 16.6 per cent of the new car market.

It meant that electric cars have overtaken diesel to be the second most popular type of car after petrol models, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

With a ban on new sales of petrol and diesel cars due in 2030, the switch to electric has become a question of when rather than if for many drivers.
