Strange 10-door Chevy Suburban sedans for sale in Japan

Two strange looking 10-door Chevy suburban sedans were put up for sale through Yahoo Auctions in Kyoto, Japan.

According to the auction list, these vehicles were once used as airport shuttles, but seem to have long since been retired – probably in favor of more economical shuttle buses and / or trains. They are now sitting in an overgrown junkyard near Kyoto, collecting dust and dirt, and waiting for a brave Japanese car enthusiast to come and breathe new life into them.

The Chevy Suburban was never officially sold in Japan, so it’s not entirely clear how these strange sedans found their way into the country. It is also not clear whether they were built in Japan or whether they were built elsewhere and then shipped there. We found an old prospectus online for a 10-door Chevy Suburban sedan conversion offered by Arkansas-based conversion company Armbruster / Stageway Inc., but there is no way to confirm whether these vehicles were built by the American firm . However, these 10-door Chevy Suburban conversion vehicles used to be quite common as airport shuttles, so it’s very likely that several companies have offered similar conversions.

The seller has started bidding at 1,000,000 yen on each of these ridiculously long sedans, which is roughly $ 9,000 at the current exchange rate. That’s a lot of money for a vehicle that will be difficult to enjoy on the rather narrow streets of Japan, but perhaps the new owner can convert it into a food truck or use it as a rolling billboard for their business. We imagine that the cost of removing the vehicle from the junkyard and transporting it to another location will unfortunately also be quite expensive.

Check out the deals here and here and let us know what you think of this weird American import in the comment below.
