The Bicester Barber Shop offers kids styles in “flying” cars

KIDS can get their hair cut in style when an Oxfordshire barber shop reopens this month.

The Old Barber Shop in Bicester now has an extension in the back to create a space for children’s haircuts.

Youngsters under the age of five can sit in colorful “flying” car seats while they keep fit.

25-year-old Laura Duggan founded the family-run company three years ago and is looking forward to giving the children a new touch.

She said, “I’m really excited to see kids in the new children’s section when we reopen on April 12th. I can’t wait for their faces to light up when they choose a car.”

With the additional space, the shop now has a total of 14 seats.

Ms. Duggan says it was a challenge to be closed during the pandemic but is grateful for the time it allowed her to build the extension.

She said, “The past year has been difficult to close for such a long time. I opened the barber shop when I was 22 and little knew we were facing a global pandemic. If the barber shop never closed us, however, I wouldn’t have the time had to start the barbershop for children.

“Social distancing has given my father, mother, sister, and I the time to plan, build, and set up the children’s department to expand our family-run business for everyone.

“That’s our kind of silver lining, if you like.”

The store now has room for everyone, such as wedding packages for grooms and groomsmen, luxury services like traditional hot towel shaves, a wheelchair-friendly cutting station, and disabled access. Ms. Duggan also offers a “first haircut” package for children.
