The Bradford couple ended up in the hospital on their wedding night after the groom got the Lamborghini. of a friend had crashed

A newly married couple ended up in hospital on their wedding night after the groom crashed a £ 200,000 Lamborghini that then went up in flames, a court heard.

Ali Zaman, 26, and his bride took their wedding guest’s supercar for a spin after their wedding on February 15, 2020.

But after doing “macho behaviors” with another driver at a traffic light in Bradford, West Yorkshire, he sped away and collided with the driver he had challenged to a race.

The Lamborghini went up in flames after the impact and both vehicles were written off, while Zaman and his wife suffered minor injuries, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Shocking video footage captured after the crash revealed that the total supercar was on fire as rescue workers rushed to the scene.

The court said that Zaman took the green Lamborghini Huracan with him without his guest’s knowledge.

The wedding guest parked the Lamborghini safely in front of the venue and the man left the car keys in his coat pocket when he entered.

But when he left, the man found that the keys were no longer there.

The wedding guest thought Zaman had taken the Lamborghini and tried to call him.

The supercar’s insurance policy allowed anyone with a permit and over 30 years of age to drive the vehicle.

QC recorder Richard Wright said Zaman, who was 25 at the time, “didn’t meet any of these criteria” and didn’t have liability insurance, the court heard.

On the day of the wedding, Storm Dennis was in full swing and there were heavy showers described as “raining sideways” “Insidious road conditions”.

CCTV footage showed Zaman driving at relatively low speed through Bradford city center for 20 minutes at 10:05 p.m., the court heard.

Mr. Wright said the newlyweds drove “perfectly” “most of the time” until he came to a traffic light on Wakefield Road.

There he posed with another car before flew away at excessive speed and then collided with the vehicle from the traffic lights.

The Lamborghini went up in flames and both vehicles involved in the accident were “written off”.

The other party sustained an injury to their left eye that required suturing, while Zaman and his wife also suffered minor injuries.

Mr Wright summed up, “It was your wedding day, you are going to remember it for all the wrong reasons, because it ended up with you making a reckless and silly decision to drive a Lamborghini down the streets of Bradford in a Lamborghini.”

He added: “You were macho with another driver at the side of the traffic lights in treacherous road conditions.

“You drove off like the Bludgers, overspeeding nearly 90 miles an hour before you lose control, collide your car, and damage your new wife and the gentleman at the traffic lights.

“It was a moment of utter stupidity on your part and the consequences could have been far more severe.”

The charge and the severity of the crash were enough to pass the threshold for imprisonment, according to Wright.

But, based on Zaman’s good character references and background, he felt it appropriate to bring it back here and describe it as a “moment of madness” that would not repeat itself.

Zaman has a full-time job, a stable marriage, and is a new and good father, according to Wright.

He added, “You may be lucky that your wife decided to hold out with you as your wedding turned out.”

Zaman admitted driving a motor vehicle dangerously and assaulting someone, in fact causing bodily harm.

He was sentenced to an 18-month collective injunction requiring him to do 180 hours of unpaid community work, deprived of driving for a year, and sentenced to pay a victim’s premium.
