Chinese automaker JAC celebrate the debut of its new electric vehicle for the Mexican market, the 2022 JAC E10x. What is worth celebrating here is not just one EV in Mexico – although I like to see it Electric vehicles Get started in all markets. The E10X is well worth celebrating as it’s an electric vehicle with over 200 miles of range that costs under $ 20,000. And it’s technically in North America! This is both great and a sad reminder of the US EV market

The E10X has a respectable range of 224 miles and costs 416,000 pesos, or $ 19,960 Motor passion and Autocosmos. That’s for the commercial E10X that lacks a back seat to accommodate more cargo. But the passenger version starts at 425,000 pesos, or $ 20,400.

That’s priced higher than other affordable cars in Mexico like that Honda Citywhich starts at around $ 15,300. Nevertheless, I can’t help but look forward to a new electric car – incidentally with connections to Volkswagen – at this price.

Especially when you consider that JAC is not a flying night startup, but rather a pretty big player in its domestic car market, China. The E10X is pretty much a rebadged iEV6E, but the badge engineering did it well. The design has subtle VW hints, which is not surprising given the relationship between JAC and Volkswagen. The companies are work together in the Chinese EV market that greatest in the world. You could even think of the E10X as one ID.3 Lite.

The maximum range of the JAC is between 187 and 224 miles, depending on the driving mode. It has a 30.2 kWh battery and the performance data are 59 hp and 111 lb-ft of torque. Those aren’t glowing specs, but it’ll probably be enough for the little hatch.

Really, I’m just excited that there is a solid, inexpensive EV option nearby. If you are a millennial, which means you were born between 1981 and 1996 Bank, then you’ll remember when new cars cost between $ 10,000 and $ 20,000. The price of new cars in the US quickly broke the $ 20,000 mark, and that’s nowhere near the base price of most Electric cars here.

Hope we will see one one day affordable EV slowly erodes. Right now, EVs feel like premium offerings in the US, and that has to change.
