Richard Bennett, 29, and currently with HMP Hindley in Wigan, also admitted various incidents, including possession of a gun intended to scare a Skelmersdale woman into fear of violence last February and the attack on an amputee who later died suffered an epileptic fit in July.

Richard Haworth, the prosecutor, said the owners locked and secured the two-story duplex on Avenue, Ingol, on March 20 to begin the trip.

He added: “When they returned home on April 6, they found a message from the police that the property had been broken into.
“He noticed that her safe was in the middle of the front room floor.”
