Ulverston’s childhood sweetheart got engaged before the dream wedding at Niagara Falls

CHILD LOVE got engaged at Niagara Falls before tying the knot days after wedding restrictions were lifted.

Emily Tallontire, 27, of Ulverston, a farm shop buyer, and Thomas Douglas, also known as TJ, 27, a project manager, first met in the Ulverston Victoria Sixth Form.

Mr Douglas said he liked his wife’s natural beauty and Mrs Douglas said she was drawn to her husband’s “brilliant sense of humor”.

The couple in love got engaged with friends at Niagara Falls in 2019 while on vacation.

“TJ took me to a quiet garden with a view of the falls. I stood with my camera and took pictures, just took everything, when I turned around he was on one knee,” she said.

“I was incredibly shocked – it was a total surprise. We were on vacation with our friends who knew and hid while they posed with their cameras to capture the moment. It was an incredible setting.”

The couple married on June 26, 2021 at St. Peters Church Field in front of 64 guests, followed by a reception at Longlands Cartmel.

They said, “We didn’t have to postpone the wedding, which we feel very happy about. Although January to June were stressful with all the uncertainty, everything worked out in the end. Fortunately, Covid didn’t affect our wedding too much.

“We got married just five days after Boris announced the 30 guest limit could be lifted, so it was a little stressful, but we know how lucky we were, on the whole, for a slightly smaller wedding.”

As a wedding car, the couple borrowed the red 1967 Ford Mustang from its neighbor.

They said, “He picked Emily and her father from Longlands and drove them to church and then drove us back after the ceremony. That was special because he doesn’t usually let other people use his car for weddings.”

“The weather was perfect, cloudy in the morning (which kept the temperature low) and later sunny. We planned the wedding so that we and the guests would remember it as a weekend. Longlands can accommodate 40 people. We spent 40 of our next and preferably three nights with us, Friday was a chill, Saturday was the wedding and Sunday we all went to Cartmel Races.

“Eftal from Ladybird Photography was amazing. He was really inspired by the breathtaking longlands and the pictures are well worth the time invested. Everyone said how good the food was. We had a joint starter consisting of bread, dips, crackers, Cheese and a garlic chicken main course. Southcott did our catering and they were amazing. ”

The couple are planning a three-week trip to the Rocky Mountains for their honeymoon next year.
