V8 Supercars: Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) is commended for being the first team in Asia to become carbon neutral

Dick Johnson has hailed it as one of the crowning glories of his career as his DJR Supercars team implement a groundbreaking environmental protection program that has met with great global resonance.

Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) gave the green light to the masterful team that planted 17,000 trees to become Australia’s first and only carbon neutral racing team.

As part of a comprehensive, previously kept secret environmental program, DJR has fully offset the annual CO2 emissions of 15.5 tonnes through recycling, tree planting and the use of renewable energies.

After DJR founder Dick Johnson received a three-star environmental accreditation, which was applauded by FIA President Jean Todt, DJR founder praised the green as one of his team’s great achievements.

“This is one of the most exciting announcements we’ve made in the history of the team,” said Johnson.

“I may have been in motorsport for well over 50 years, but I’m still very passionate about our team and our sport, the positive effects it can have on society and future generations.

“As a guy with two grandchildren, I couldn’t be more proud of the work Ryan and the team did to make DJR Australia’s first carbon neutral racing team.”

The landmark green light program was spearheaded by DJR co-owner Ryan Story.

“Innovation, professionalism, efficiency and technology are at the heart of everything we do and drive Dick Johnson Racing’s success on the racetrack,” said Story.

“With an incredible 1.25 million DJR supporters in Australia, I have long affirmed that we have a social, moral and ethical responsibility to use this platform wisely, also for the benefit of future generations of motorsport supporters.”

“Becoming Australia’s first carbon neutral motorsport team and the first touring car team to receive FIA three-star environmental accreditation is an exciting moment for our entire organization and a major milestone in the more than 40-year history of DJR.

“We believe in it for our team and our business, and others may choose to follow suit in their own way.”

Jean Todt, President of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), congratulated DJR and its co-owners Dick Johnson and Ryan Story on their achievement.

DJR planted 5,000 trees in Australia and another 12,000 in India and Nepal.

“I am very pleased that you were the first motorsport team outside of Europe to receive the FIA’s three-star environmental accreditation,” said Todt.

“A key element of the FIA Action for the Environment initiative is our accreditation program and it is very encouraging to see Dick Johnson Racing setting an example for other touring car teams to demonstrate the FIA’s responsible and proactive approach to the environment and sustainability. Congratulations to Ryan Story, Dick Johnson and the team for their performance and example. ”
