A WEDDING vehicle rental company with a touch of Yorkshire will represent the region in a final of the National Industry Awards next month.
Great Ayton-based Yorkshire Vehicle Hire company was recently named Yorkshire & North East Transport Provider of 2020 by the Wedding Industry Awards.
The family-run company is now preparing to travel to London on January 15th to represent the region in the transportation category of the awards.
Tom Waters started the company with his wife Sophie in 2017 after they avoided the usual Rolls Royce and Bentley wedding cars in favor of a vehicle that loots more often in muddy Yorkshire fields – the iconic Land Rover.
And Mr Waters said it was her own wedding that inspired the business.
He said: “When we got married in 2017, we had restored a Land Rover from the 1950s ourselves and used it as a wedding car.
“That gave us the idea because we wanted something different.
“We’ve only been doing this for a short time, but we’re already diversifying a bit into self-vehicle rentals where people can take them with them for the weekend in the North York Moors or Dales or wherever.”
In just three years, the business has grown to a fleet of eight vehicles, all but one of which are Land Rover.
The exception is a vintage bus from the 1950s, which is also proving to be a hit with customers.
And despite the national final, Mr Waters remains on the ground ahead of the January ceremony.
He said: “We didn’t expect the regional games to be fair so I wouldn’t say we were confident.
“But even if we can make it as far as possible, we’ll be very happy with it.”
